The Aerospace Technology Center is on the move!

The Centre technologique en aérospatiale (CTA), affiliated with Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, has received a $19,000 grant from the Ministère de l'Éducation to get its staff more active. This sum will be used to purchase sports equipment (stationary bikes, weights, mats) available at CTA facilities, and to organize outdoor activities such as rock climbing.

"As an employer, we are committed to promoting the well-being and overall health of our staff. Given the amount of time we spend at work, promoting healthy lifestyle habits helps us integrate them into our daily routine, not to mention making it easier to motivate ourselves collectively to get moving," emphasizes Frédéric Parent, CTA General Manager.

"The consensus is clear: we are all aware of the many advantages of regular physical activity for the well-being of employees and the benefits for companies. Congratulations to the Centre technologique en aérospatiale for this initiative," said Isabelle Charest, Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors.

Varied programming

To mobilize staff and meet their real needs, an internal committee called CTActiz has developed a program promoting an active lifestyle following a Formule Actiz training session. The objectives are to stimulate physical activity and introduce new sports, motivate employees to get moving and recruit sports ambassadors. Two physical activities, such as yoga or cosom field hockey, will be offered every week for three weeks, while the last week of the month will be devoted to wellness activities.

Several activities have already been set up at the CTA in line with employees' expressed preferences, such as judo and "body groove" classes, and an outing to Mont Saint-Hilaire. They were also able to attend two lectures by Olympian Joliane Melançon on motivation and nutrition. Staff are also invited to use the weight room, outdoor training circuit and sports facilities at the adjacent École nationale d'aérotechnique to play volleyball, badminton, spikeball and soccer.

"CTActiz aims to reduce physical inactivity and improve friendships. Although the program is not yet fully implemented, we have noticed a growing interest among our staff, who clearly wish to lead a more active life at work and improve their quality of life, as demonstrated by the success of our first initiatives. Thanks to the grant we've just received, we'll be able to roll out more extensive programming and offer activities that meet our staff's needs even better," says Karine Gagnon, CTA's Director of Organizational Development.
