The Aerospace Technology Center supports student retention with its "Poursuis ton rêve" project
The Aerospace Technology Center (CTA), affiliated with Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, has set up the Follow your dream with the J'aime ma ville organization to encourage school perseverance among Montreal and Longueuil students from racialized minorities. The CTA hopes to support a dozen high-school students in their academic progress, and help them discover certain scientific careers. It will also be awarding ten bursaries worth a total of $2,800, raised last December through a fund-raising event.
This is the first step in a long-term commitment to help reduce social inequalities by promoting education and science, a cause particularly close to the heart of the CTA team. As a sign of the importance attached to this project, the Centre's General Manager, Francis Archambault, is a member of its steering committee.
Personalized support
"We decided not only to offer scholarships, but also, and above all, to ignite a little flame in these young people, by enabling them to discover some fantastic career opportunities in the sciences. We want to support them in a concrete way and establish a real exchange with them," explains Francis Archambault. At CTA, we're convinced that these relationships will be as enriching for us as they will be for the young people we sponsor."
To motivate scholarship holders to continue their studies, the CTA will welcome them to tour its state-of-the-art facilities and discuss career opportunities. They will also have the opportunity to give a presentation on a subject they are passionate about at a conference or symposium organized by the Aerospace Technology Centre.
It's really great to see a team rise up to fight against social inequalities, which we know often play a major role in school retention," says Firmina Firmin, director of J'aime ma ville. That's why J'aime ma ville is delighted to be associated with this project, which will support young people from racialized minorities. With the CTA, we want to accompany them on their educational journey and give them access to a whole world of science and technology."
How to apply
High school students from racialized minorities can now apply by completing the form before March, 31 2022. A jury will determine the winners, and the scholarships will be awarded in April 2022.
