In brief

The project aims to develop and implement metrology and inspection processes based on the principles of the Quality Information Framework (QIF), an open standard (ISO 23952:2020) ensuring complete digital traceability of the quality data life cycle.
This initiative has integrated connected metrology and 3D model interoperability (MBD) between design, manufacturing and inspection, reducing transcription errors and accelerating the quality feedback loop for part inspection with CMM.

Project summary

The aim of the project was to validate QIF files and consume the dimensions of various parts in several inspection software packages. Various tests were carried out on inspection platforms such as Mitutoyo MCOSMOS, Zeiss Calypso and Renishaw MODUS, Metrologic Group MetrologX4, CheckMate, to check the use of QIF and the results of inspected features.

CTA's role

CTA's role was to support Pratt & Whitney Canada in modernizing its metrology and inspection processes by qualifying the effectiveness of CMM software in the proper application of QIF. Several types of parts were inspected using the new method.

Results

  • A decision matrix was produced to qualify the effective application of QIF, and to identify and correct anomalies.
  • A standardized inspection method will be applied to the partner's suppliers.
