Accounting Technician

Your mandate

The CTA, a nonprofit organization, is seeking an accounting technician
for a regular part-time position of 21 hours per week. The incumbent will contribute to operations
accounting operations, financial analysis, and reporting for grant-funded projects. We are looking for a
an independent, curious, and analytical individual capable of understanding operations, proposing improvements, and
and eventually take on payroll responsibilities.

Your main responsibilities

The successful candidate will report directly to the Finance and Administration Analyst and will work closely with the
various CTA teams. More specifically, their responsibilities will include

  • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable;
  • Prepare and track purchase requests and expense reports;
  • Perform bank reconciliations, analyze discrepancies, and follow up as needed;
  • Prepare and post journal entries and assist with monthly closings;
  • Reconcile certain general ledger accounts and assist in the preparation of reports and financial statements;
  • Prepare financial reports for funding agencies: compile eligible expenses, salaries, and hours; verify their eligibility; and gather supporting documentation;
  • Track claim deadlines and respond to requests for information or verification from funding agencies;
  • Prepare and improve financial tracking spreadsheets for projects and analyze variances;
  • Contribute to the development and automation of tools for continuous improvement;
  • Manage petty cash, make deposits, and assist with customs clearance of goods as needed;
  • Assist, as needed, with the payroll process as well as related reconciliations and submissions;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

Your profile

  • DEC or AEC in accounting, or currently enrolled in a university accounting program;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written French; functional command of English to communicate with certain English-speaking clients and partners;
  • Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and SUMIF;
  • Proficiency with accounting or ERP systems and the ability to quickly learn new tools.

Your experience

  • At least two (2) years of relevant accounting experience, including hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, and month-end support.

Your Strengths

  • Experience in financial reporting, accounting for grant-funded projects, or working at a research organization;
  • Experience with or a strong interest in payroll processing;
  • Experience in improving or automating accounting processes.

  • Flexible schedule of 21 hours per week, spread over approximately three days, with the possibility of increasing to 25 hours as needed;
  • Salary based on qualifications and experience;
