Creation of a new aerospace innovation zone: A major step forward for training, research and innovation in Quebec
Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, École nationale d'aérotechnique (ÉNA) and the Aerospace Technology Center (CTA) are delighted to announce the creation of an aerospace innovation zone in the Greater Montreal area, Espace Aéro, with a specific hub in Longueuil. This promising project was announced today May, 21 2024 by the Quebec government, as part of the International Aerospace Innovation Forum, organized by Aéro Montréal, which will be responsible for implementation and governance.
This new innovation zone represents a decisive announcement for the City of Longueuil and its partners, who are positioning themselves as key players in the technological progress of Quebec's aerospace industry and the region's economic development.
"I would like to express our deep gratitude to Premier François Legault and Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon for their leadership and commitment to transforming Greater Montreal and, by extension, Quebec. This designation, particularly for the Longueuil cluster, confirms the position of Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, ÉNA and CTA as leading partners in making Longueuil a prime location for aerospace training, research and innovation. Espace Aéro is a major step forward of which we should all be proud," said Sylvain Lambert, Director General of Cégep Édouard-Montpetit.

The Ministère de l'Économie, de l'Innovation et de l'Énergie has launched a call for the creation of innovation zones in 2020. The aim was to bring together different socio-economic players to stimulate growth, success and prosperity in Quebec.
"The creation of this new innovation zone, and more specifically the Longueuil cluster, is a mark of the government's confidence in our national school, the quality of the college training programs we offer, and the expertise and skills of our staff. Collaboration between all players in industry, research and higher education will guarantee a rich and prosperous innovation ecosystem for all players," explained Pascal Désilets, Director of ÉNA.
Frédéric Parent, General Manager of the CTA, commented: "The establishment of the innovation zone will open the door to accelerated applied research and the emergence of new technologies that will benefit small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as major international players. Espace Aéro represents a new era of technological progress and significant opportunities for the Quebec aerospace industry. At the CTA, we're ready to meet tomorrow's challenges and shape the future of our industry."
Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, ÉNA and CTA are proud to be stakeholders in the future aerospace innovation zone and its Longueuil hub, alongside Aéro Montréal, the City of Longueuil and equally committed institutional and industrial partners. Their common goals and sustained collaboration set the stage for the development and future of aerospace in the region and in Quebec.
