Cégep Édouard-Montpetit and its Aerospace Technology Center join the fight against the pandemic
Cégep Édouard-Montpetit and its Aerospace Technology Center (CTA) are proud to be among the 52 Canadian organizations receiving infrastructure funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to carry out research that will help combat COVID-19. The Outstanding Opportunities Fund - Colleges COVID-19worth nearly $50,000, will enable the CTA to support the air transport industry in developing methods for applying antimicrobial coatings and disinfecting parts used in aircraft cabins.
Following the November 6 announcement by the Ministère de l'Innovation, des Sciences et du Développement économique, nearly $28 million has been awarded through the CFI to cover urgent equipment needs in support of research activities related to COVID-19.
"CTA is both grateful and proud to be among the organizations selected. We also take very seriously the role we have to play in the fight against the current pandemic, and more specifically in the civil aviation sector," says CTA General Manager Francis Archambault. Initially, these grants will be used to develop methods for applying antimicrobial surface treatments to aircraft interior components. Next, a study will be carried out to analyze the impact of ultraviolet (UV) treatments on material sterilization."
In addition to working closely with companies in the air transport sector, the effectiveness of these treatments will be evaluated in conjunction with other research centers in other sectors, such as the food industry.
The funding obtained will be used to purchase 3D printers, infrastructure and a UV source to enhance the industrial research capabilities of CTA's partners.
